Know the destination
Saona Island lies off the southeast coast of the Dominican Republic within Cotubanamá National Park. Most excursions embark at Bayahíbe, so a tour from Punta Cana normally combines a road transfer with a boat journey. Saona is a beach-and-island experience; it is a different destination from Catalina Island, which is often chosen for snorkeling.
Plan your visit
Start with the beach stop you want and the boat format you enjoy. A catamaran, speedboat or combination changes the journey as much as the destination. Palmilla natural-pool stops and Mano Juan visits are possible itinerary elements, not automatic inclusions. Ask how much time is spent on the island after hotel pickups, boarding and any other stops. A quieter beach area, a smaller group and a longer crossing are separate choices to discuss.

Your itinerary
Choose Saona for the island beach day and coastal boat journey. Choose Catalina if guided reef time matters more than the broadest beach itinerary. A Bávaro party boat usually keeps the outing closer to the Punta Cana coast and is a different kind of day. Avoid scheduling a distant island excursion immediately before a flight or a reservation with a strict return time.
What to bring
Bring sun protection, a swimsuit, a towel, dry clothing and a bag that protects electronics during boat boarding. Describe any difficulty stepping between a pier, beach and boat before reserving. Leave shells, coral and wildlife undisturbed; do not lift starfish out of the sea for photographs. The crew decides whether water stops can operate in the prevailing conditions.
Your written quote
Send your hotel in Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto or the wider Punta Cana area and request a complete pickup-to-return itinerary. Confirm the embarkation point, boat types, beach location, natural-pool stop, lunch, drinks, park admission and group size. If Mano Juan is important, request it by name. Ask whether transport is shared and how the return transfer is coordinated; an island photograph does not identify the beach included in a particular package.
