A week with room to enjoy it

This seven-day plan counts arrival and departure as days one and seven. It leaves space for two beach days, one island day, a shorter nature or adventure outing and an optional longer excursion. It is a planning example, not a package with confirmed departures or a fixed total price. If you have seven nights rather than seven calendar days, use the additional day as a buffer instead of filling every gap.

Choose the order around your actual accommodation, flights and activity requirements. Keep a flexible day after the island trip so you can discuss alternatives if conditions change. Hotel collection, time on the road and boat boarding are part of the day, not details to add after choosing a tour.

Day 1 — Arrive and settle in

Start with your arrival airport, flight number, exact accommodation and luggage. Arrange the airport transfer separately from excursion transport. After check-in, use the remaining time for a meal, a short walk and rest rather than committing to a departure you might miss if your flight is delayed.

Read the Punta Cana airport-transfer guide. Send the full property name: a resort reception, a condo gate and a nearby beach are different meeting points. Keep your operator's contact and the agreed pickup details accessible.

Day 2 — Beach time and a little preparation

Make your first complete day an easy one. Enjoy the beach or facilities available at your accommodation and check the arrangements for tomorrow. Confirm the pickup window, walking time to the meeting point and how you will receive any changes. Ask about breakfast or a packed option directly with your hotel if collection is early; do not assume it is provided.

Use our hotel and condo excursion guides to check your starting point. Bávaro, Cap Cana, Uvero Alto and inland condo addresses need different transfer planning. None of these guides alone confirms that an operator collects at your property.

Day 3 — Choose Saona or Catalina

Choose one island day rather than trying to combine both. Saona suits a beach-led outing; compare Classic, Premium and a private boat by their actual stops and group format. Catalina puts more emphasis on snorkeling or diving, with a separate private option. A diving introduction and a snorkeling trip have different participation requirements.

Start with Saona or Catalina: choose your island day. From Punta Cana, include the road connection to the confirmed boat departure in your comparison. Ask for the complete pickup-to-return window, time ashore, meals and water-activity arrangements. Do not make a fixed dinner reservation that depends on an exact return time.

Day 4 — A shorter adventure or a forest visit

After a full island day, consider Buggy & Cenote or Los Ojos Eco Journey instead of another distant excursion. The buggy option focuses on driving and operator-selected stops; Los Ojos refers to Ojos Indígenas, a forest reserve with freshwater lagoons. They are separate experiences, and a buggy title does not automatically include the reserve or a particular cenote.

Read Ojos Indígenas or a buggy adventure. Confirm driving rules, named stops and the full transfer time for buggies. For Los Ojos, confirm entry arrangements, the walking route and which lagoon activities are permitted. A shorter activity can still require a substantial transfer from your hotel.

Day 5 — Keep a genuine rest day

Leave today free for the beach, the pool or a relaxed meal. This also gives you space to discuss moving a weather-dependent outing, subject to availability and the booking terms. A flexible day is useful; it is not a guarantee that an operator can reschedule at no charge.

If you would rather be active, replace part of the day with one assessed lesson or ride instead of adding several activities. Our surf, horseback and kite comparison explains the differences. Share your experience and swimming confidence, and allow for instruction and suitable conditions. Choosing rest is a valid part of the plan.

Day 6 — Culture in Santo Domingo or nature in Samaná

Choose Santo Domingo for a culture-focused journey and Colonial Zone landmarks, or Samaná for Cayo Levantado and the El Limón waterfall approach. Both need a dedicated day; do not plan them together. The published examples are approximately 11 hours for Santo Domingo and 13 for Samaná, with your actual hotel pickup and return confirmed separately.

Compare walking, steps, boat boarding and the waterfall trail before choosing. Ask about the horseback or hiking arrangement at El Limón rather than assuming either suits everyone. Los Tres Ojos in Santo Domingo is a sightseeing stop where swimming is not permitted; it is different from Ojos Indígenas in Punta Cana. If a long journey does not suit your group, keep another local beach day instead.

Day 7 — Depart without a rushed connection

Work backwards from the airline's airport-arrival guidance and your confirmed transfer arrangements. Check checkout time, luggage storage and any late-use facilities with your accommodation. Leave room for the drive, traffic and airport formalities rather than treating the map's driving estimate as the whole departure plan.

Avoid a full-day excursion before a flight that evening. If you have a late departure, choose activities close to your accommodation only when the timing works with the agreed airport pickup. Return to the airport-transfer guide to send your flight and hotel details; we do not promise a universal pickup time.

Adapt the plan to your hotel and your group

From a resort, confirm the correct lobby or vehicle entrance and allow time to reach it. From a condo, send the development, building and entrance pin and discuss gate access. Do not use the name of a nearby hotel as a substitute address. The accommodation directory helps identify the right departure-property guide.

For children, send ages and discuss the particular activity, equipment and duration; a child price alone does not establish eligibility. For travelers with access needs or anyone who prefers a slower pace, describe walking, steps and boarding needs before booking. Keep the same rest-day structure and replace unsuitable activities rather than forcing the entire group through every suggestion.

Turn the outline into a clear booking plan

Choose your priority island day first, then one shorter outing and, if you want it, one longer culture or nature day. Compare the full tour catalogue before reserving. The tour pages distinguish published prices, reference prices and private quotes; do not multiply a headline adult price to estimate a family total without checking ages, pickup and inclusions.

Request the operator, date, party total, hotel meeting point, pickup-to-return window, included services, payment and cancellation or weather terms in writing. This guide does not reserve any places. Send your hotel, travel dates, adults, children's ages and the experiences you care about so the available options can be confirmed.
